Last night was our annual Piatigorsky Foundation concert, this year featuring tenor Kelly Burns accompanied by Nicholas Shaneyfelt on piano. The program began with songs from the 17th century to the 20th, in six different languages (including English). Nicholas gave Kelly a well deserved break by playing a solo ragtime piece, then 4 pieces sung in English, based on poems. Nicholas’ next interlude was Gershwin’s Embraceable You arr. by Earl Wild, ending with songs by 20th century composers, capped off in a heartfelt encore of “Danny Boy”.

This was a tour de force by two musicians who so often collaborate in a synchronous, sonorous, musical whole.
